Today we introduced ourselves to all the other families, and each dog came out to meet his new partner. All the children seemed excited about their new dogs. After introductions, we played with our new dog and gave her lots of treats so Daniel could get to know her. By the end of this time period we broke for lunch.
Instead of the usual lunch, Daniel had a visit to the urgent care center. He had started complaining of a headache and his ear was bothering him. The doctor said he had some fluid behind his right ear and that was causing his pain and headaches. I have to say that he was finished at the doctor's office, and got his prescription and was back at 4 Paws in about an hour. That's pretty good service. I hope he has a better day tomorrow. He was having a lot of small seizures this evening so we medicated and got him to bed early. Hopefully he will do well tonight.
After lunch we came back and started learning basic commands for the dogs. We each had the opportunity in small groups to practice sit, down, and walking around them without them getting up. We practiced correcting the wrong behavior and then getting the Dove to continue to do the right command and hold it until released.
We each had a chance to give commands and even Daniel tried a few times too. It was a lot of fun. I enjoyed meeting all the new people and the staff at 4 Paws were so nice. We are all looking forward to going back in the morning.
We didn't get to bring her to the hotel tonight because they didn't have time to teach us the heel command. So, she will get to come with us tomorrow night! We just were delayed in starting this morning due to unforeseen circumstances. We got to bring the kennel and dog food back to the hotel to get ready for tomorrow.
